Support organ donation: join the Centralised Organ Donation Register

Dear Colleagues,

The Centralised Organ Donation Register set up by the Department of Health was officially launched earlier today.   The Register is for prospective donors from all over Hong Kong to voluntarily register their wish to donate organs after death.

At present, there are more than 2,000 patients in Hong Kong desperately waiting for organ or tissue transplant.  Without matched organs, these patients can do nothing but struggle with sickness, with their lives heavily dependent on apparatus and medicines.

As members of the largest team in serving patients in Hong Kong, you probably know that in Hong Kong, the supply of donated organs is limited, often because the family of the prospective donor is not aware of his or her wish.

We certainly need many more prospective donors. If you support organ donation and wish to be an organ donor, please join this Centralised Register.  For online registration and details about organ donation, please go to www.organdonation.gov.hk.   And it is vitally important that you tell your family about your wish, too.

Only you and your family’s support can bring fresh hope to those needy patients. Let’s act now and help make Hong Kong a healthier and more compassionate place!

Best wishes,

Anthony Wu & Shane Solomon
